About the Author
Ordinary women. Extraordinary stories.
Rasana Atreya writes book club fiction set in South India — stories of women (and the occasional man) caught between heritage and heart, in villages where tradition isn’t simply a guide, it’s an ironclad rule.
Once upon a time, she managed server crashes for NASA and the United States Army, keeping high-performance systems up and running. Somewhere between engineer and storyteller, she raised two children, questioned patriarchy, and discovered that the strongest signals don’t always come from the loudest voices.
Her debut, Tell A Thousand Lies, was shortlisted for the 2012 Tibor Jones South Asia Prize (UK) and named one of Glam Magazine UK’s favourite tales from India. Rather than accept a traditional publishing contract, she chose to self-publish — then wrote about the experience for The Hindu, and was invited by Amazon to be part of the official Kindle launch in India. She has been featured in The Tribune, The Hindustan Times, The Hindu and DNA India, and has mentored countless writers on their self-publishing journeys. Read the media coverage »
Daughters Inherit Silence was a Finalist for the 2023 Indie Author Project (California Adult Fiction) and a B.R.A.G. Medallion honouree.
Rasana holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is currently writing The Water Wives, preparing French and German translations of her novels, and training an AI model on her own voice so her future audiobooks reflect both her Indian roots and her storyteller’s ear.
